01

What is inside

Soft Click and Crisp Click are quiet interface clicks for buttons, list rows and menus. The numbered Click and Clickety Click sets are dry, mechanical clicks in many small variations, useful when the same control is pressed again and again and one repeated sample starts to sound like a machine gun. The Retro Button Press set is 8-bit: square-wave blips that suit pixel-art games, arcade menus and playful landing pages.

02

Choosing a click for an interface

Interface sounds work when nobody notices them. Pick the shortest, quietest click that still confirms the press, and save louder sounds for actions that change something, such as sending a message or deleting a file. Use one family across the product so the clicks feel like one device, and rotate two or three variations from the same set on controls people press quickly, such as a keypad or a stepper.

03

Playing button sounds on the web

Browsers block audio until the visitor interacts with the page, which suits button sounds: the first click is the interaction. Load short sounds into memory once with the Web Audio API, or reuse one audio element per sound, so the click plays on time instead of after a network request. Keep a setting to turn sounds off, respect the device's silent mode on phones, and never use sound as the only feedback: the button still needs a visible pressed state.

04

Formats and license

Each sound downloads as WAV for editing and MP3 for the web. The sounds come from Kenney, Juhani Junkala and other creators who released them under CC0, so they are in the public domain: you can use them in commercial apps and games without credit. Each sound's page shows its source and license.

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Write to support@horizonx.so.

Can I use these button sounds in a commercial app or game?

Yes. The sounds are CC0 (public domain), so commercial use, editing and redistribution inside your product are allowed without credit. Each sound's page names its creator and license.

What format are the files?

Each sound downloads as WAV and MP3. Use the WAV to trim or mix it, and the MP3 on a website, where the smaller file loads faster.

How do I add a click sound to a button in HTML?

Load the MP3 once, for example with new Audio('click.mp3') or the Web Audio API, then play it in the button's click handler. Reset currentTime to zero before each play so fast repeated clicks restart the sound instead of waiting for it to end.
