A classic halftone press: round dots on a fixed grid that swell in the shadows and shrink to nothing in the light, so the tone you see is dot area rather than ink density. Replace the image or video, then edit the dot pitch, the screen pattern, the tone curve and the two inks.
How this texture works
Press Screen prints your image or video through a coarse round dot screen, the way a newspaper press lays down tone. Round dots sit on a fixed grid, swell in the shadows and shrink to nothing in the light, so what you see as tone is really dot size. Dither style is Halftone circle, Split mode is Dither only so no lettering is mixed in, and the ink is near black on off-white paper.
Tips
- Dither pixel size sets the dot pitch. Raise it for a bold poster screen, lower it for a finer print.
- Gamma shifts the balance of the dots. Raise it to open up a dark picture.
- Change Foreground to print in a spot colour, such as red or blue, on the same paper.
- Raise Soft focus slightly to smooth out busy detail before it is screened.
Questions
How do I make a newspaper halftone effect?
Load your picture into the Image slot. This preset screens it with round dots straight away. Adjust Dither pixel size until the dots have the scale you want, and use Gamma to balance light and dark.
Can I make the halftone in colour?
Switch Color mode to Original or Multi to bring the picture's colours into the dots, or choose any Foreground and Background for a two-colour print.
