A coarse ordered screen of square navy dots on a cream paper that takes the colour of the picture: warm where it is lit, pale blue where it falls into shade. Neither end of the picture goes flat: the deepest shadow keeps a sparse lattice of pale dots, midtones settle into a checkerboard, and the brightest white keeps a sparse lattice of navy ones, like an old low-resolution print. Replace the image or video, then edit the dot size, the screen pattern, the tone curve and the two inks.
How this texture works
Sky Lattice turns your image or video into a coarse lattice of square navy dots on paper that takes its colour from the picture. Color mode is Tinted, so the paper is warm where the picture is lit and pale blue in the shade. Neither end goes flat: deep shadows keep a sparse lattice of pale dots, midtones settle into a checkerboard and the brightest whites keep a few navy ones, like an old low-resolution print.
Tips
- Dither pixel size is large here for a visible lattice. Lower it for a finer screen.
- Bayer 2x2 gives the checkerboard pattern. Try Bayer 4x4 or 8x8 for more tonal steps.
- Screen inset keeps a few dots in the darkest and lightest areas. Set it to 0 to let them go solid.
- Change Foreground to recolour the dots while the paper keeps the picture's colours.
Questions
How do I make a retro low-resolution print effect?
Load your picture into the Image slot. This preset prints it as a coarse dot lattice with the paper tinted by the picture's colours. Raise Dither pixel size for an even chunkier, more retro print.
What does Tinted do in Color mode?
Tinted keeps the dots in one Foreground colour and colours the paper with the picture underneath, so the image's colours show through the paper instead of the dots.
