A field of italic serif digits on a flat charcoal ground. The light in the picture is written as numbers: dim areas carry a sparse scatter of small figures, bright areas swell into large overlapping ones, and the shadows stay empty. The sequence runs on across every row and down every column. Replace the image or video, then edit the digits, the cell size, the threshold, the tone curve and the two inks.
How this texture works
Numeral Field writes the light in your image or video as white serif digits on a flat charcoal ground. The Type treatment is Scaled, so dim areas get a sparse scatter of small figures and bright areas swell into large, overlapping ones, while the shadows stay empty. The digits come from the Text field, 1634059728 by default, and the sequence runs on across every row and down every column.
Tips
- Type your own digits or letters into Text. A date or a phone number works as well as a random sequence.
- Cell size sets the base size of the figures. Small cells keep the picture readable; larger ones make the numbers the subject.
- Text split threshold decides how much of the picture gets numbers. Lower it for fewer, brighter figures.
- Change Foreground and Background to swap the white on charcoal for any two colours.
Questions
How do I make a portrait out of numbers?
Load a portrait with clear lighting into the Image slot. This preset places bigger digits where the face is brightest. Type your own sequence into Text and adjust Cell size until the face reads well.
Why are the shadows empty?
The preset uses Invert tones with a 1-bit threshold, so the darkest areas get no figures. Raise Text split threshold or Gamma to fill more of the picture.
