A darkroom print rather than a screen. Tone stays continuous and the texture comes from irregular silver grain that is strongest through the midtones and clears away at both ends, so deep shadow stays clean black and a highlight blows to bare paper. Source colour is kept, so a warm rim light stays warm. Replace the image or video, then edit the grain amount, the grain scale, the tone curve and the paper.
How this texture works
Ember Stipple develops your image or video like a darkroom print made of silver grain. Tone stays continuous, and the texture comes from irregular film grain that is strongest in the midtones and clears away at both ends, so deep shadows stay clean black and highlights burn out to bare paper. Color mode is Original, so the source colours stay in the print and a warm rim light stays warm.
Tips
- Film grain amount sets how strong the grain is. This preset keeps it high for a pushed-film look.
- Dither pixel size changes the grain scale. Larger values give a coarse, gritty print.
- Gamma is high here, which crushes the shadows. Lower it to keep more detail in the darks.
- Switch Color mode to Mono for a black and white print on the paper colour.
Questions
How do I add film grain to a photo?
Load your picture into the Image slot. This preset applies grain that follows the tones, heavier in the midtones and clear in the deepest shadows and brightest highlights. Use Film grain amount for strength and Dither pixel size for scale.
Does the grain keep my photo's colours?
Yes. Color mode is set to Original, so the colours of your picture stay. Switch to Mono or Tinted for a single ink.
