A hard one-bit plate: every pixel is either ink or paper, and the illusion of tone comes only from how the ordered screen packs the dots. Fine enough to hold an eyelash, coarse enough to stay a visible texture. Replace the image or video, then edit the dot size, the screen pattern, the tone curve and the two inks.
How this texture works
Bit Plate reduces your image or video to a hard one-bit plate. Every pixel is either ink or paper, with no greys, and the feeling of tone comes only from how an ordered Bayer 8x8 screen packs the dots. Dither pixel size is small, so the screen is fine enough to hold small detail but still reads as a texture. Split mode is set to Dither only, so no lettering is mixed in, just near-black ink on warm off-white paper.
Tips
- Dither pixel size sets the size of each dot. Raise it for a coarse, retro screen.
- Try other Dither style options: Bayer 2x2 and 4x4 give a more visible grid, 1-bit threshold gives flat cut-out shapes.
- Gamma moves the balance between ink and paper. Raise it to open up dark pictures.
- Change Foreground and Background to print in any two colours, for example blue ink on cream.
Questions
How do I make a 1-bit dither effect from a photo?
Load your picture into the Image slot. This preset already renders it in two colours with an ordered screen. Adjust Dither pixel size for the dot size and Gamma for the balance between ink and paper.
Can I add text to the dither?
Yes. Change Split mode to Text in shadows or Text in highlights, and the words from the Text field fill those areas while the rest stays dithered.
