A soft data veil: a dense grid of small zeros settles on whatever the light is falling on and thins away into the shade, so the subject picks up a machine-read surface while the background stays photographic. Replace the image or video, then edit the glyph set, the grid, the tonal window, the ink and the glyph opacity.
How this texture works
Zero Bloom lays a dense grid of small zeros on the lit parts of your image or video and leaves the shadows clear. The Character ramp is a run of spaces followed by two zeros, so only the brighter tones get a glyph. The photo stays visible underneath, and the zeros are white at about half opacity, so the subject picks up a machine-read surface while the background stays photographic.
Tips
- Shorten the run of spaces in the Character ramp to let the zeros spread into the midtones.
- Character opacity is at 0.55. Raise it for a stronger veil, lower it for a hint of data.
- Columns sets the size of the zeros. At 150 they read as texture; lower values make each digit readable.
- Swap the zeros for another character, such as 1 or a dot, to change the feel of the veil.
Questions
How do I add a binary or data effect to a photo?
Load your image or video into the Image slot. This preset places zeros on the lit areas only. Type 01 into the Character ramp after the spaces if you want a binary mix of ones and zeros.
Why do the zeros only appear on the bright parts?
The ramp maps darker tones to spaces. Raise Brightness or remove some of the leading spaces and the zeros reach the darker areas too.
