Pointer Particles

An image dissolved into a field of particles the cursor shoves out of the way.

About this tool

Every pixel brighter than the cutoff becomes one instanced quad, coloured by the pixel it came from, so a subject lit against black cuts its own silhouette out of the rectangle. The pointer paints a trail texture that pushes the cells it passes over and lets them settle back, and the sources cross-dissolve on click or on an idle auto-advance. Density, cutoff, glow, particle size, scatter, depth, the wake and the drift are all live, and the deck takes up to six images of your own. Export a self-contained HTML file when it looks right.
