An original drifting-line halftone: the picture is read along wandering vertical strands, every sample lays a carrier dot so the ruling survives the shadows, and the ink a bright sample earns is thrown sideways until a highlight swells into a mass. The strands undulate on their own clock, so even a still image moves. Edit line spacing, dot size, zigzag, tone, ink colour and drift live; swap in your own image or video.
How this texture works
Ink Current redraws your image or video as vertical strands of ink that wander down the frame. Each strand is a line of small dots, and where the picture is bright, the ink is thrown sideways until the highlight swells into a solid mass. The strands drift on their own, so even a still image moves. Here the ink is near white on black, and the Ink section decides how much a highlight swells.
Tips
- Line spacing sets the distance between strands. Wider spacing gives a bold, graphic look.
- Zigzag controls how much each strand wanders from side to side.
- Catch and Concentration decide how strongly highlights swell into masses. Lower them for thin, even lines.
- Set Animate drift to off for a still image, or use Flip drift to reverse the direction.
Questions
How do I make a line halftone effect from a photo?
Load your picture into the Image or video slot. The strands read it straight away, swelling in the bright areas. Use Line spacing for the scale and Dot size for the weight of the lines.
Why does my still image move?
The strands drift on their own clock when Animate drift is on. Turn it off and the image stays still.
