A curling wave of fine white dust spirals into a dark hollow, with a bright lit lip, streaked walls and a stippled floor.
About this shader
Thousands of tiny grains stream inward along spiral arms and pack into a glowing rim where the light hits. Adjust flow, spin, spiral twist, wave curl, hollow size and position, perspective, light angle, shadow, rim glow, grain size, streaks and twinkle, or recolour the dust, shade and background. Set Background opacity to 0 for a transparent canvas. The canvas respects reduced motion and uses the same renderer for preview and export.
How this shader works
Dust Vortex shows a curling wave of fine white dust spiralling into a dark hollow. Thousands of grains stream inward along spiral arms and pack into a bright rim where the light hits, with streaked walls and a stippled floor below. The Look section controls the flow, the shape of the spiral, the hollow and the lighting. Background opacity can drop to 0 for a transparent canvas.
Tips
- Spiral twist and Wave curl set the shape of the vortex, and Spin sets how fast it turns.
- Hollow size, Hollow X and Hollow Y move and resize the dark centre.
- Light angle and Shadow decide which side of the rim glows.
- Set Background opacity to 0 to place the dust over your own page colour or image.
Questions
How do I make a particle vortex animation?
Open Dust Vortex and set Dust density, Spin and Inflow for the motion you want. Change the Dust and Shade colours for a different look, then export it as code or as an MP4 video.
Can the background be transparent?
Yes, in the HTML, React and Svelte exports. Set Background opacity to 0 and only the dust is drawn. MP4 video exports are always opaque.
